Lake Street Residence

Approached by a pair of clients looking to open up the closed-in feeling of the dining room, kitchen, and breakfast nook in their Sea Cliff home, Butler Armsden created a space that is at once plush and sleek. Combining the traditional dining room and kitchen and several small rooms into one large, inviting space that houses the living, cooking, and banquette eating areas, the architects created a space that welcomes guests at the same time that it allows the hosts to prepare the meal. The space speaks to comfort with materials, colors, and finishes that complement each other. In the kitchen, stainless steel cabinets and subway tile play off dark, high-gloss finishes and softly curving light fixtures. The home’s crafted 1920’s details — delicate wood trim, narrow-framed windows, thick archways — contrast but also scale nicely with the new space’s roomy dimensions. In the banquette area, a custom walnut and steel table designed by Glenda Flaim, the project’s interior designer, reflects most closely the tastes of the clients and puts their unique seal on a new, dynamic space.
